Species details:
The Allegheny Serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) is a versatile native tree or shrub, typically growing 15–25 feet tall. In early spring, it displays clusters of lightly scented white flowers that attract pollinators. By summer, these blooms give way to dark purple berries, which provide a valuable food source for at least 35 bird species, along with other wildlife like bears and chipmunks. Its blue-green leaves turn vibrant shades of orange and red in the fall, and its smooth gray bark and dense branching add winter interest.
