Bearded Beggarticks
Bidens polylepis
Bearded Beggarticks is a fast-growing annual found in moist prairies, swales, and wet meadows. Thriving in sunny, seasonally damp locations with rich, organic soil, it can spread aggressively by reseeding, forming large colonies. Its bright yellow blooms appear in late summer and fall, attracting a variety of pollinators, including bees, flies, butterflies, and moths. The seeds are a food source for birds like Bobwhite, Purple Finch, and Ring-Necked Pheasant, as well as small rodents. Host plant for Dainty Sulphur butterfly caterpillars.
