This plant is biennial (lasting 2 years) but will put down seed and new plants will grow if they like the conditions. It prefers disturbed areas with less competition from other plants. It has a slightly untidy, spindly appearance but its small white and pink flowers attract long-tongue bees and bumblebees. Gaura Moth and Primrose Moth caterpillars use the leaves and seeds as food sources.
