Clustered Mountain Mint
Clustered Mountain Mint
Pycnanthemum muticum
Clustered Mountain Mint is a hardy, aromatic perennial that thrives in full sun to light shade and well-drained soil. Growing up to 3 feet tall, it forms dense clumps with broad, lustrous leaves and silvery bracts. Its small, pinkish-white flowers bloom from mid to late summer, attracting a wide range of pollinators, including bees and butterflies.
It spreads by rhizomes but is not as aggressive as other mints, making it easy to manage by pruning roots in spring. Its dense growth stabilizes soil and serves as a natural weed barrier. A striking addition to gardens, it pairs well with robust perennials like Bergamot and Purple Coneflower.
Note: this is not native in Wisconsin but is native in Illinois and further South.
