    Sprig Native Plant Nursery

    Dogbane

    Dogbane

    Apocynum cannabinum

A hardy native perennial with slender, branching stems and smooth, bluish-green leaves. In early to mid-summer, it produces clusters of small, fragrant, pinkish-white flowers that add a delicate contrast to its bold, upright form.

Its nectar-rich flowers attract a wide range of pollinators, including native bees, wasps, and butterflies. It also serves as a host plant for several moth species and is an important larval host for the dogbane tiger moth.

Highly tolerant of drought, poor soils, and disturbance, it spreads gradually by rhizomes, making it effective for erosion control and restoration projects. It can be aggressive in the right conditions.
