Heath Aster
Heath Aster
Symphyotrichum ericoides
Heath Aster does well in medium to dry soils and will spread by rhizomes to form colonies. White flowers and green, needle-like leaves cover the stems. Asters are a great source of nectar for late season pollinators, such as bees and butterflies. The seeds are also used as a food source for many birds, including goldfinches, chickadees, cardinals, nuthatches, and towhees. Host plant for the Pearl Crescent butterfly.
