An annual (lasting only one year) legume that helps fix nitrogen in the soil. Can spread aggressively by self-seeding. Leaves will usually fold together when touched or in bright sun. Birds will eat the seed and the flowers attract bees and butterflies. Host plant for Little Yellow, Sleepy Orange, and Orange Sulfer butterfly caterpillars.
