Sprig Native Plant Nursery
Plains Oval Sedge
Plains Oval Sedge
Carex brevior
Plains Oval Sedge is a resilient, adaptable perennial thriving in prairies, wetlands, and disturbed sites. Flourishing in dry to seasonally flooded soils, it withstands drought, periodic inundation, and controlled burns while resisting deer and rabbits. This cool-season grower emerges early in spring, providing green growth before warm-season grasses awaken. Its low, mounded form will develop prickly green oval spikelets that mature into golden brown seed clusters by fall.
