Prairie Coreopsis
Prairie Coreopsis
Coreopsis palmata
Prairie Coreopsis, also known as Stiff Coreopsis or Tickseed, is a hardy native perennial that thrives in dry, sunny sites with poor soils. Growing up to 2 feet tall, it spreads by rhizomes, forming dense colonies ideal for stabilizing slopes and preventing erosion. Its bright yellow, daisy-like flowers bloom for 3–4 weeks in mid-summer, attracting native pollinators and serving as a valuable nectar source for bees. It is also a host plant for several small moth species, including the Wavy-Lined Emerald. Prairie Coreopsis is an excellent choice for tough, well-drained landscapes.
