Sprig Native Plant Nursery
Prairie Sage
Prairie Sage
Artemisia ludoviciana
Prairie Sage thrives in sunny, dry areas with sandy or rocky soils. Its aromatic, silver-green foliage, covered in woolly gray or white hairs, adds a striking accent to large plantings. It topped by fairly inconspicuous yellow flowers that attract many pollinators. Host plant for the American Lady and Painted Lady butterflies.
It can spread aggressively by rhizome and form dense colonies, which may make it unsuitable for small, formal gardens. This resilient plant is ideal for prairie restorations or other low-maintenance landscapes needing a touch of silvery elegance.
