Royal Catchfly
Royal Catchfly
Silene regia
Royal Catchfly is a rare Midwest native plant, primarily found in isolated prairie remnants due to habitat loss. Despite its scarcity in the wild, it thrives in home gardens, where its striking red, trumpet-shaped flowers attract hummingbirds and Black Swallowtail butterflies. It prefers medium, loamy soil and pairs well with other prairie flowers and grasses for support. Its name comes from the sticky glands on its stems and leaves, which trap small insects.
